Marpessa / Marpessa Remake 2008 / 2024–
Short film, 4'18" · remake ongoing
Artemis, despite her vow of chastity to her father Zeus, falls in love with the fisherman Idas and takes the form of the sea nymph Marpessa to meet him. When Zeus learns of the forbidden love he splits the land, and Cyprus breaks away from the land of the gods. The myth is told as an allegory of the island's division. The first film layers underwater footage, ancient ruins and the island's present-day landscapes under Turkish narration; it was uploaded to YouTube in 2008. The remake, begun in 2024 with Dinç Erem Tapa, retells the story with AI-generated imagery and is in production.
